In weight lifting, an individual can increase their strength by lifting heavy weights. To build muscle, consistency and intensity are key. You don’t just give up because a workout seems too hard. I remember when I couldn’t do situps without weights on my feet. Now it’s one of the things I do best at the gym. Whether you like it or not, in order to gain strength in an area, you have to work that area.
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?”
-James 2:14 NKJV
God desires to increase the strength of your spiritual muscle so that the “works” won’t be so hard. However, you’ve got to be willing to intentionally walk the walk of obedience, even when it becomes uncomfortable. Particularly some of you are wondering why the warfare has intensified so much, well God has called you higher and it’s time to align your will to His will.
Now I don’t know the details of bench pressing but for your spiritual muscle you have the best spotter there is, G-O-D. According to Wikipedia , spotting in weight or resistance training entails “the act of supporting another person during a particular exercise, with an emphasis on allowing the participant to lift or push more than they could normally do safely”.
Interesting right? So God is building your spiritual muscle and He said “Though at times the weight of the burdens seem unbearable I am strengthening you”. He is right there, supporting you.
We are called to be His spiritual Body builders. Body builders in the world spend a lifetime perfecting their human body through proper training and nutrition. So, God is perfecting you through the struggles for you to be a Spiritual Spotter in the Body of Christ.
You know when you first get your Gym membership and your going hard but then you slowly forget to add it in your schedule until one day the only interaction you have with it, is the monthly withdrawal from your bank account. That reminds me of our relationship with God sometimes. On paper it says one thing, but that doesn’t mean you are living an active lifestyle. Our actions will speak louder than words. Let God grow and develop you by having a true relationship with Him. Being a member of a church or having some theological degree is not going to get you into Heaven. Tithing may rebuke the devour but unless you follow Jesus’ way, you are tithing to only show your riches. This life requires relationship with God.
